Warning to dog owners following two children bitten by dogs in Warwickshire

PC Matthew Phillips, Dog Legislation Officer for Warwickshire Police, has issued a warning after two children were bitten by dogs in Warwickshire in the past week. Both children suffered serious injuries that required surgery in the incidents in Nuneaton and Bedworth

PC Phillips said: “We would remind parents, and dog owners that have contact with children, to take care when having their animals around children and not to leave them unattended.

“Dogs can also give off subtle body language when they are not happy with a situation such as licking of lips, yawning, stretching or looking out of the corner of their eye. This can often be a pre-cursor to a bite and noticing this can help you remove whatever is stressing your dog.

“If dog owners are concerned with any behaviour their dog may be exhibiting then we would encourage them to seek professional help from a dog behaviourist.” See more
