Men claimed to be police officers in a distraction burglary in Nuneaton – Friday 3rd May

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men claimed to be police officers in a distraction burglary in Nuneaton.

We’re urging local residents to be on their guard after two men claimed to be police officers in a distraction burglary in Nuneaton 0n the afternoon of Friday 3rd May.

The incident happened on Friday 3 May at around 3.25pm when the men called at an address in Northumberland Avenue.
They claimed to be from CID to gain access into the house before distracting the occupant. While in the property they stole a quantity of money and jewellery.
Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for witnesses.
Detectives are also advising local residents to be on their guard.
DS Dave Moorman, from Nuneaton CID, said: “We would urge local residents to be on their guard and vigilant to anyone knocking on their door unannounced as unfortunately not everyone who calls at the door is who they claim to be.
“Often these people can be very convincing and give no reason for the occupant to believe they are not genuine however we would urge people to be cautious. If in any doubt don’t let them in and check their identity.
“Any genuine caller will not mind waiting or coming back another time after arrangements have been made to check they are who say they are. If possible, arrange for someone else to be at the property when they return.
“We’re appealing for information in relation to this incident and I would ask anyone who was in the area on Friday afternoon and saw anything that seemed suspicious or out of the ordinary to get in contact with us.”
Any witnesses can ring Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting reference 222 030519 or alternatively information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
